Professor Chinyere Nneka Ukaga joined Wigwe University Isiokpo Rivers State
Nigeria in December 2023 as the pioneer Director of Academic Planning unit as
well as pioneer Director of Quality Assurance. She is a pioneer member of the
1st Governing Council of Wigwe University Isiokpo representing Senate.
Chinyere Nneka Ukaga is a Professor of Public Health Parasitology with
research interests in Preventive chemotherapy Neglected Tropical Diseases
(PcNTDs), Skin related NTDs, HIV and Parasitic co-infections, Malaria control
and co-infections.
Chinyere was from Imo State University Owerri where she served in various capacities including Head, Department of Animal & Environmental Biology (Zoology); Deputy Director, Consultancy Services Unit; the Director, Consultancy Services Unit; the Chairman Consultancy Board, the Pioneer Director, Quality Assurance Unit; Member of the Imo State University Governing Council; the first female Director Academic Planning Unit and the first female Dean Student Affairs Directorate.
Chinyere is the immediate past National President of the Parasitology and Public Health Society of Nigeria. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Parasitology and Public Health Society of Nigeria.
She is an International Council member (representing Africa) at the International Society of Infectious Diseases (ISID) based in Brookline MA USA and here, she is involved in the mentorship program with 2 mentees from different parts of Africa. She is also a National Executive Council member of the World Federation of Parasitologists (the first African living and working in African to be on this board).
Chinyere is the 1999 best graduating Ph.D student of the University of Nigeria Nsukka winning both the Vice Chancellor’s Prize and the Faculty of Science Prize. She was a Federal Government scholar at both the secondary school level (Fed. Govt. Girls College Onitsha) and Master’s degree level (University of Nigeria Nsukka). Her Ph.D. program was supported by the Tropical Diseases Research (TDR)/ World Health Organization (WHO) training grant with Dr. Hartwig Schulz-Key (University of Tubingen Germany) as co – supervisor.

Chinyere has more than 28 years post graduate research and teaching experience. She has to her credit more than 161 publications in reputable journals, produced 55 PhD graduates of whom 5 are presently professors in different universities, as well as numerous MSc graduates.
She has consulted for the African Program on Onchocerciasis Control (APOC) now ESPEN, a subsidiary of World Health Organization; as well as AFRO (another subsidiary of WHO) and has consulted for the Federal Government of Nigeria on the Niger Delta Federal Amnesty Program. She led the WHO AFRO team that mapped Soil Transmitted Helminthiasis and schistosomiasis in The Gambia.

Moses N. Itauma is a consummate university administrator with approximately twenty-one (21) years of progressive, post-qualification experience in university administration, governance, policy implementation, and strategic leadership within the Nigerian University System (NUS). Over the course of his career, he has acquired extensive knowledge and experience across various Divisions and Units of the University Registry, rising steadily through the ranks, by God’s grace and dint of hard work, to attain the position of Registrar via a rigorous, transparent selection process. His professional journey has equipped him with deep institutional knowledge, exceptional administrative capacity, and a comprehensive understanding of university governance and regulatory systems.

He served with distinction as the substantive Registrar of Crawford University from September 2020, during which time he contributed significantly to strengthening administrative systems, governance processes, and added value in service delivery.

Following the successful completion of his illustrious tenure, he joined Wigwe University, the Fearless Community, first as Deputy Registrar. Presently, he serves as the Acting Registrar, providing strategic leadership and driving innovative reforms geared towards institutional stability and steady growth, operational excellence, and global competitiveness.

A respected professional within the Nigerian University System, he has served as External Expert/Consultant on the Selection Boards for the appointment of Registrars of other universities, as well as a Member of various Panels for the appointment of Principal Officers, Professors, and other academics. He has also mentored several serving and served-out Registrars within the Nigerian University System, and continues to provide mentorship to emerging career administrators. In addition, he has consulted for numerous universities, both home and abroad, on matters relating to university governance, administration, institutional development, and general Registry operations.

He has served as an elected Member of the Governing Council of Crawford University, taught in the Mass Communication Department, and instituted the “Moses N. Itauma’s Prize for Academic Excellence for the Best Graduating Student in the Department”, an academic prize that ran for seven sessions. Also, in a bold bid to strengthen work ethics, professionalism, and productivity among staff, he introduced the “Punctuality Award” and the “Best-Dressed Staff Award”.

Moses holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. Hons.) degree and a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Mass Communication from Lagos State University, Ojo, and the University of Lagos, Yaba, respectively. He is a Fellow of some recognized professional bodies and a Member of several others. He has participated in numerous conferences, workshops, seminars, and capacity-building programmes across the country, at many of which he has presented scholarly and professional papers.

In the course of his illustrious career, he has received no fewer than twenty (20) awards and commendations for excellent and meritorious service from within and outside the university, in recognition of his exemplary service and outstanding contributions to university governance and leadership. Remarkably, nine (9) of those prestigious awards were received in 2025 alone.

As Acting Registrar, he is passionate about positive reforms, continuous capacity building, and the development of efficient administrative structures capable of supporting world-class academic institutions such as Wigwe University. His commitment to purposeful leadership, innovative reforms, and value-added service delivery continues to define his professional philosophy and approach to university administration.

Consistent with this philosophy, he is committed to transforming the Registry into a Centre of Excellence that is highly responsive to the needs of students, staff, and other strategic stakeholders. His vision is to build an effective, efficient, technology-driven, and service-oriented Registry that provides the administrative backbone required for the University to fulfil its distinguishing niche as a unique brand: a top-tier, globally competitive, 21st-century institution that all its stakeholders will be proud of.

He leverages his expertise in IFRS-based reporting, business analytics, and enterprise resource planning to strengthen institutional accountability and support sustainable growth.
