Written and directed by Richard M. Wilson, a student filmmaker at Wigwe University, ‘The Letter’ has been nominated in ten categories, including Emem Isong Misodi Award for Best Screenplay, Cleopatra Award for Best Make-up, Best Costume, Best Actor (Male), Best Cinematography and Best Editor.
Other categories that ‘The Letter’ got nominations for were Signis Africa Award for Best Humanitarian Film, Chico Ejiro Award for Best Director, Best Short Film and Captain Hosa Okunbor Award for Best Overall Film.
The 2025 ISFF is scheduled to take place from November 19–22, 2025, at Imo State University, Owerri, and will feature over a hundred film submissions from students across Africa.
According to the Festival Secretary, Chidinma Joy Ewuzie, the event aims to celebrate and promote emerging filmmakers across the continent by providing a platform to showcase creativity and engage with industry professionals. Ewuzie commended the Wigwe University team, describing “The Letter” as “a testament to the exceptional storytelling and production quality of Africa’s next generation of filmmakers.”
Top producers and film icons from across the continent are expected to grace the festival and present awards to winning filmmakers.
For Wigwe University, this recognition marks an inspiring milestone. Barely into its academic journey, the institution is already gaining international attention for nurturing creative excellence and innovation in its students.
