The Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer of Wigwe University, Professor Marwan Al-Akaidi, on Thursday, November 06, 2025, received a delegation from the university’s host community, led by Honourable Success C. Owhondah, Councillor representing Isiokpo Ward 1 in the Ikwerre Local Government Legislative Assembly.
During the courtesy visit, Professor Al-Akaidi expressed appreciation to the community leaders and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to youth empowerment through human capital development. He emphasized that the university is dedicated to creating an enabling environment that equips young people in the community with information and communication technology (ICT) knowledge and skills.
The Vice-Chancellor reassured the political and community leaders of the university management’s unwavering dedication to community service. He reiterated the vision of the late founder, Dr. Herbert Wigwe, to ensure that the university makes a positive and lasting impact on the indigenes of Ikwerre Local Government Area and Isiokpo town.


In his response, Honourable Owhondah commended the Vice-Chancellor and the university leadership for their receptiveness, noting that sustained engagement with the host community is essential for peaceful coexistence between “town and gown.” He stated that the youths of the community are fully aware of what Wigwe University represents and, in honour of the pledge made to the late Dr Wigwe, remain committed to ensuring the security of the university’s environment.
The delegation thanked the university leadership for being a valuable partner in driving community development and pledged continued collaboration with the management team to sustain the legacy of the late Dr Herbert Wigwe.
