Team A Clinches 2026 Vice-Chancellor’s Cup Title in Thrilling Students’ Week Finale

The 2026 Vice-Chancellor’s Cup Football Tournament came to an exciting conclusion as Team A emerged as champions after defeating Team B by a lone goal in the final match held as part of the University’s Students’ Week celebrations. The highly anticipated encounter drew enthusiastic support from students, staff, and university officials who gathered to witness the culmination of three weeks of competitive football action.

The decisive moment of the match came in the first half when Lube Kelvin of the College of Engineering found the back of the net from the spot after a penalty was awarded for an infraction, scoring the only goal of the game. His clinical finish proved sufficient to separate the two sides in a tightly contested fixture, earning Team A a hard-fought 1–0 victory and securing the coveted Vice-Chancellor’s Cup trophy.

The tournament featured teams from the University’s four colleges and showcased exceptional talent, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout its three-week duration. The competition provided a platform for students to demonstrate their athletic abilities while fostering unity, healthy rivalry, and camaraderie across the University community.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Marwan Al-Akaidi, was present at the final match to cheer on both teams and later presented the winners’ trophy to the captain of Team A, Eric Baribeefi of the College of Science and Computing. The celebrations continued during the Students’ Dinner, where Professor Al-Akaidi awarded medals to members of the winning team and the runners-up, bringing the weeklong Students’ Week activities to a memorable and fitting close.
