The Vice-Chancellor of Wigwe University, Professor Marwan Al-Akaidi, attended the 2026 Nigerian Army’s 29th Battalion West African Social Activities (WASA) festival last week, an annual tradition that celebrates Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and strengthens bonds within the military community and the civil populace.
Professor Al-Akaidi, who attended the celebration at the instance of an invitation from the Commanding Officer of the 29th Battalion of the Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Irinam Joseph, had the privilege of interacting with the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, and other notable Nigerians at the event.
As a guest of honour, Professor Al-Akaidi was asked to sample a variety of local dishes from different states and tribes of Nigeria. He was excited about the event and noted that it was an honour to share in an evening of friendship, shared values, and cultural pride alongside officers, soldiers, and their families.
