Professor Marwan Al-Akaidi, Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer of Wigwe University, today welcomed a four-man delegation from the National Universities Commission (NUC). The visit is part of the commission’s statutory mandate to oversee and regulate tertiary education in Nigeria.
Professor Al-Akaidi, leading the university’s management team, assured the NUC representatives of Wigwe University’s commitment to transparency and its mission to become a premier, value-driven institution, not only in Nigeria but across the African continent.
The NUC team, led by Deputy Director of the Resource and Strategic Planning Division, Dr Theophilus Ogbor, noted that Wigwe University is the 129th private university licensed in the country and explained that their mission is to ensure the institution remains fully compliant with regulatory standards.
“Our primary objective is to assess your level of compliance with the NUC Core Curriculum Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS), as well as other operational guidelines established during the licensing process,” Dr. Ogbor stated.
Furthermore, Dr Ogbor commended the various units of Wigwe University for their contribution to making the university’s submissions comprehensive and detailed enough for them to work with, noting that it effectively captures the young university’s progress from its inception to date.
The NUC assessment team will spend the coming days reviewing the university’s records, processes, and infrastructure, while also interacting with staff and students. The visit will conclude with an exit meeting with the Vice-Chancellor on Friday, March 6, 2026.
