The University was founded by The Herbert Onyewumbu Wigwe Foundation, (HOW Foundation) Dr. Herbert O. Wigwe is a visionary, philanthropist and a renowned banker with a passion for education and Africa.

Wigwe University is located in Isiokpo, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, Nigeria, which is a 15-minute drive from the Port Harcourt International airport.
