Wigwe University has taken another significant step towards strengthening its position as a leader in technology-driven education following a strategic visit by a delegation from Huawei Technologies to the University’s campus.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Marwan Al-Akaidi, alongside members of the University’s ICTteam, received the Huawei team led by Huawei East-West Africa Manager, Ajuma Gabriel. The visit focused on exploring innovative digital teaching solutions designed to enhance learning experiences and further strengthen the University’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure.
At the centre of the engagement was the presentation of the Huawei Idea Hub Smart Board, an advanced interactive teaching and collaboration platform developed to support modern, technology-enabled learning environments. The solution combines intelligent classroom technology, artificial intelligence capabilities, cloud integration, and enterprise-grade collaboration tools to facilitate more engaging and effective teaching and learning experiences.
During the presentation, the Huawei delegation showcased the platform’s key features, including AI-powered auto-framing, voice tracking, intelligent real-time transcription, ultra-responsive digital whiteboarding, and seamless integration with leading collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom. The system also offers advanced hardware specifications, cloud connectivity, and enhanced support services designed to meet the evolving needs of higher education institutions.
A major highlight of the proposal is the potential partnership through the Huawei ICT Academy programme, which would provide Wigwe University students with access to professional training, industry-relevant curricula, and globally recognised certifications in emerging technology fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, and Cybersecurity. Such opportunities align closely with the University’s commitment to producing graduates equipped with globally competitive digital skills.
Speaking during the engagement, the Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed Wigwe University’s dedication to continuously investing in innovative technologies that enhance teaching, learning, research, and overall operational excellence.
Management noted that while the University currently operates highly capable interactive learning systems, the Huawei proposal presents an opportunity to further accelerate its digital transformation agenda and reinforce its vision of delivering world-class education powered by cutting-edge technology.
The visit forms part of Wigwe University’s ongoing efforts to build strategic partnerships with leading global technology companies and to create a learning environment that prepares students for success in an increasingly digital and innovation-driven world.
