Wigwe University Hosts ASSP Nigeria to Boost Safety, Professional Development


The Vice-Chancellor of Wigwe University, Professor Marwan Al-Akaidi, recently received a delegation from the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), Nigeria Chapter, on a visit to foster collaboration on safety standards and professional development. The delegation was led by its President, Engr. Osuji Charles Felix, who highlighted the organization’s global reach and commitment to advancing safety, health, and environmental practices through education, advocacy, and professional support.
Speaking during the visit, Engr. Felix emphasized that ASSP is a leading international association dedicated to equipping its members with the knowledge and resources needed to promote safer workplaces and communities. He noted that the Nigeria Chapter remains actively engaged in supporting institutions and industries across the country to align with global safety standards and best practices.
In response, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Al-Akaidi, expressed the university’s readiness to build meaningful partnerships that will strengthen safety and wellness across its operations. He affirmed that the institution’s management is open to collaborations that will help entrench best practices in all units of the university, ensuring a secure and health-conscious environment for staff, students, and the wider community.
The team from ASSP, after the meeting with the university leadership, held a parley with the students, and a presentation and talk on the importance of embracing safety as a way of life on and off campus was presented by Engr Osuji.
